SMART STRATA SEMINARS – FIRST HALF SERIES WRAP-UP & GOLD COAST NEXT WEEK!
We’ve officially reached the halfway point of our Smart Strata Community Education Seminar Series, with three successful events now completed in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Airlie Beach. The Smart Strata seminars first half centered on the core theme of Committee Membership and By-law Lifecycles and have sparked insightful and practical conversations across Queensland’s strata communities.
We saw more than 200 attendees registered and the positive feedback is flooding in, this series is proving to be one of our most engaging yet. And with three events still to come, there’s still time to join us on the Gold Coast (21st May), Cairns (28th May), and Townsville (29th May).

What We’ve Covered So Far
Our legal and industry expert panelists have helped attendees unpack what it means to serve on a body corporate committee. Discussions have explored how committee terms begin and end, what to do when nominations exceed or fall short of available positions, and the roles and responsibilities of each member.
In Brisbane, Jason Carlson, Partner, Chambers Russell Lawyers and Todd Garsden, Partner, Mahoneys Lawyers & Advisors opened the series on the 30th of April. On the Sunshine Coast, Mario Esera, Partner, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers joined Jason to continue the discussion. In Airlie Beach, Todd Garsden returned to lead a valuable panel session.
From Archers the Strata Professionals, we welcomed:

- Grant Mifsud, Partner, Sunshine Coast.
- Joel McBride, Partner, Airlie Beach.
Their insights focused on committee nomination processes, common challenges, and how to navigate key decision-making responsibilities.
Our panels also tackled by-law enforcement—exploring what happens when by-laws are breached, what contraventions look like, and what to do if a contravention notice is ignored. The sessions were highly practical and grounded in real-world experience.
Audience Engagement and Feedback
The response from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive for our Smart Strata seminars first half. Presentations were consistently rated 9/10 for quality, content relevance, and value. Most importantly, participants reported a significant boost in their understanding of both committee membership and by-law procedures.
Key Feedback Highlights:
- 100% of Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Airlie Beach attendees said they now better understand how to join a committee.
- On committee duties, 97% in Brisbane, 100% on the Sunshine Coast, and 99% in Airlie Beach felt more informed.
- 98% across all three regions said they now have a better understanding of by-law enforcement.
- When asked, “Would you like to become a committee member?”, most responded yes. However, 20% said no and 3% were undecided.
These results confirm the continued need for education in Queensland’s evolving strata sector and highlight the demand for accessible, region-specific learning.
